UNESCO is currently drafting a groundbreaking international law text on the ethics of neurotechnologies, which is due to be adopted in November this year. The German Commission for UNESCO is involved in this process in an advisory capacity in coordination with the Federal Foreign Office in order to incorporate scientific and civil society perspectives into the Federal Government's opinion-forming process. Dr Sebastian Sattler was invited as an expert from the field of sociology to take part in an expert discussion on the Federal Government's position on this controversial topic, which was organised by the German Commission for UNESCO, the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Among other things, the discussion centred on ethical and normative premises for the responsible use of neurotechnologies for medical and non-medical applications.
